Black Velvet Crazy

…I find myself slightly obsessed with black velvet paintings, thanks to my recent visit to K, Tea? 's super sweet blog, where I thought I spotted a cheese-a-licious velvet nudie.  I grew up with a couple around the house, in fact I have one packed somewhere that I should drag out, it’s just a nature scene though.  Did any of your parents or even yourself ever rock the black velvet paintings?  Some of them are so god awful crude, but they hold such kitschy charm.

p.s.- there are about a gazillion jesus, elvis and unicorn ones.

p.p.s- they make want to go out and get a crappy cheap ass press wood frame, and some black velvet, and get to work.

Very cool post! Love the one of the girl (who looks a bit like you I might add). There was a black velvet painting museum in Portland (Oregon) that I was dying to go to one day, but apparently it closed, planning to move "somewhere warmer", but I haven't heard if it reopened yet. Check out their website:

Awesome score on those vintage magazines! I've been subscribed to my local freecycle (daily e-mails) for like 2 years now, although I haven't found anything cool yet that someone didn't get to before me. I'm really bad about not reading the e-mails regularly though. But I know the good stuff is out there. You'll have to post pics of some of your collages/creations. I love old magazines!

Utterly mind blowing! I can't decide which one I love/ cringe at most!! The little girl with the puppy crying is pretty amazing! Whereas, the Michael Jackson one is actually pretty darn good! What a wild genre black velvet art is! Great post! P.S. Would it be possible to email me your postal address as I'd like to send you a little something! XO's
