…last Saturday early morning at around 3am, my husband and I awoke to a very LOUD kitty yowl. Not too uncommon because there are a lot of cats in the neighbourhood, so we didn’t think anything of it and went back to sleep. I awoke for realz the next morning at around  8:45, walked groggily down the stairs on the search for my kitty good mornings and our porch door to the outside was WIDE OPEN and NO kitties were to be found. I obviously freaked, grabbed a sweater and ran outside yelling their names. No kitties in sight. I ran in and woke Steve up to come and help. I was shaking and in a teary panic. I grabbed a bag of treats and started shaking them like there was no tomorrow. The door is still wide open, and sure enough Tuna comes jiggling on in. (her tummy jiggles when she runs, it is SO adorable) But still no Turtles. Steve went out and starting walking around the block. He found Turtles plopped under a tree, just chilling..took awhile to get him, he kept bolting. Finally cornered him when he went up our neighbour's stairs. We are guessing that that crazy yowl we heard had something to do with their exit...if so, that mean our kitties were out approx. 6 hours. Insane!!!!! Indoor cats with free run of the town. I am so thankful to have them back, i don’t know what I would of done if I had lost them. I did this funny little photo shoot of them right after.

Have any of you ever had a scary runaway incident with any of your pets?  what an awful feeling. But an immense feeling of love and relief once they return. PHEW.

I'm so glad you were able to get your kitties back!
Bazinga nearly made a getaway back in the spring. I had taken her outside, she was wearing a harness and leash. Apparently, I didn't have the harness fixed properly. Something spooked her, she slipped out of the harness and bolted across the yard. The neighbor's dog barked at her, which made Bazinga stop in her tracks - allowing me to catch her. Whew!

When I was a teenager my cat, Ricky, decided to take a ride on the top of my boyfriend's truck. We went to McDonalds and were sitting in the drive-thru line when I happened to glance in one of the side mirrors and said "That looks a lot like Ricky... Wait, that IS Ricky!". I jumped out and grabbed him, luckily he was really glad to see me, and we took him back home. I don't think he ever got on top of another car again.

I couldn't even imagine losing my kitties. Even for a few hours. Thankfully Turtles was in plain sight and tuna likes treats too much to say no lol.

My elderly cat Piggy, had passed away and I had just gotten a new kitten to help me move forward. I had Hendrix for 2 weeks when he "went missing". We searched the neighborhood, knocking on doors, desperate to find him. I knew he'd never find his way back again as he hadn't learned where "home" was. That night, as I began to fall asleep, I felt a little bit o fur tickling my feet. It was Hendrix! He'd never gone. We never did figure out where he was all that time.

Your page is brilliant!

That is a wonderful series of photos, and I so understand your need to do that just then.

My little Boo got out a few days after my 30 y.o. son had died and I was so distraught (thinking I would have lost both of them)that I couldn't function. She wouldn't come to me, I couldn't see for the tears, and DH finally was the one to bring her back.

Poor little Boo...I transferred all my grief onto those tiny shoulders that day!

GASP! i am SO GLAD this had a happy ending! cripes! kitties out on the town?!??! ACK!!!!!!!!

i have had a kitty or two escape from the front door (when i LAZILY left it open to dump the trash or grab something right outside), and it is NOT EASY to catch them and/or convince them to return to the not-so-great indoors. UGH!

side note: we had a dog named ghost when i was a kid. my DAD let him out every night. he'd open the gate and tell ghost to run, and BOY did he. he would usually come back by the next morning -- just chilling on the front porch waiting for breakfast. ONE NIGHT i was going out with friends and driving late at night on the FRIKKING HIGHWAY and i saw ghost running along the shoulder of the road. i could not fucking believe it. he ran all over town. what a life. i think everybody but us hated ghost.

Been There!
I totally freak when my girl gets out. She loves to run off on adventures & be gone for hours! She recently got grounded for life though after she brought a bird into the sunroom, and well, after much TLC, I was unable to save it.
My little runaway is also Black & white.
HEr brother is 18, deaf, blind & senile, and he also tries to wander off when I bring him out for a little sunshine. Luckily he is so slow I can collect him up rather quickly!

So glad you found them!! Boy, they must have partied all night. My kitty would love to get out and roam about freely. She is very jealous. LOL!
